Caution

There is a Met Office UK warning of snow and ice for most of Scotland (Glasgow and some parts of South West Scotland are excluded) and most of England and Wales except for London and parts of the South East/South West Coast.

58% Risk of snow flurries during/after tea until mid-evening. A cold evening with temperatures at -1c and perhaps below dropping to -3C overnight.   

Beware of ice on the roads, under bridges and trees.  Take care while out and about today and tonight when walking or driving. A small risk of snow/rain today, 58% this evening.  Because of the challenges facing snowfall forecasts, these showers could be rain, sleet or snow or a combination of those just mentioned. Therefore, plan for snow/rain mist and frost overnight if you need to travel on Friday.  Please do expect some icy patches under the snow that is lying on the ground.

Morning 

Cloudy with some sunny intervals and showers.  Snow on hills

Afternoon

The cloud continues to fill the sky. As a result, there is a very small risk of surprise winter showers until tea-time.

Evening

A cloudy evening, snow flurries during and after tea until mid-evening.  Risk of frost and ice (especially on untreated areas) in the evening and overnight. Temperatures to drop to -3c.  Therefore, beware of snow/ice seen and unseen tonight and overnight.  Overnight: Risk of snow and sleet showers (None forecast locally)

Wind: North, North West, but mainly West North Westerly until midnight

Speed: 2-8-6-(7)-12-(8) mph

Gusts:  Start at 10 mph, and increase to 14 mph just before mid-afternoon and increases to 15 mph by teatime.  Tops 24 mph mid-evening. Then decreases to 18 mph near that midnight hour.

Risks:

Of light rain/snow flurries tonight. Perhaps some sleet and rain. Frost and ice near coastal areas.

Ice (possibly hiding under the snow) on roads and pavement particularly tonight, and possibly during the rush hour of Friday morning.  A high risk for essential workers in addition to COVID-19.  Take it nice and easy when going to work.
