Here is the weather for Wednesday
Caution
There is a Met Office UK weather warning of snow and ice for all of Scotland and some parts of Eastern England.
A cold evening with temperatures at 0c and perhaps below dropping to -3C overnight. Expect light snow overnight that continues during the morning rush hour tomorrow (Thursday) and ends before mid-day. Beware of ice on the roads, under bridges and trees. Take care while out and about today and tonight when walking or driving. A small risk of snow/rain today but there is a significant high risk tonight and overnight Because of the challenges facing snowfall forecasts, these showers could be rain, sleet or snow or a combination of those just mentioned. Therefore, plan for snow/rain mist and frost overnight if you need to travel on Thursday. Please do expect some icy patches under the snow that is lying on the ground.
Summary and temperature:
Snow/Ice Risk, Partly Cloudy, with
Temp: A high of 33 °F (1 °C) and a low of 28 °F (-2 °C)
Morning
Cloudy with some sunny intervals and showers. Snow on hills
Afternoon
Cloudy with some sunny intervals. Then clear skies and some cloud before tea but ironically there is a risk of mist and freezing fog.
Evening
The cloud, mist and freezing fog may continue into the evening and overnight. Temperatures to drop to -3c. Therefore, beware of snow/ice tonight and overnight. Risk of ice lying below any snow.
Wind: Westerly, but mainly West North Westerly until midnight
Speed: 8-7-8-(7)-(7) mph
Gusts: Start at 12 mph, and increase to 15 mph just before mid-afternoon dropping to 13 mph by teatime. Then increases to 16 mph near that midnight hour.
Risks:
Of rain and showers throughout the evening turning to light rain/snow tonight and overnight.
Ice (possibly hiding under the snow) on roads and pavement particularly tonight, and possibly during the rush hour of Thursday morning. A high risk for essential workers in addition to COVID-19. Take it nice and easy when going to work. Some forecasters say that there may be snow tomorrow (Thursday – snow on roads and pavements – ice under the snow).
Time for me to log-off:
I hope you have a Wonderful Wednesday, and those lockdown rules do not depress.
The birds are tweeting. Golden Seeds stocks still rationed. We hear that the Golden Seed harvesting team of Aves are on their way home and they can now see the Scottish Borders.
